Review

"Philadelphia's psychedelic tradition extends from Bardo Pond to Sun Ra, and Dr. Dog add a swampy impermeability and White Album fixation to that signature sound." - SPIN

"Sure to attract a rabid cult of indie rock fans." - NEW YORK TIMES

"Last year was a pretty good one for Philadelphia's Dr. Dog: an opening slot on two My Morning Jacket tours and a glowing profile in the New York Times ... with a mix of Philly blue-eyed soul harmonies, Supertramp-strength hooks, and Neutral Milk Hotel's sense of balance, Easy Beat bears the mark of genius-it all sounds effortless." - TIME OUT NEW YORK "Guaranteed to charm indie-poppers and graying hippies alike." - Magnet "Lush Pet Sounds-y production made with a budget and some intangibles that bring it more in line with early Elliott Smith." - CMJ

Dr. Dog has been creating music in various incarnations in their hometown of Philadelphia for nearly four years now. Starting with their humble first release The Psychedelic Swamp, a concept album realized in the damp ruin of a flooded basement, through to the recently recorded Easy Beat, which finds the band much more lyrically and musically complex. Most recently, the band has compiled Takers and Leavers, a dramatic step up in terms of production and fidelity, and a grand preview to the LP in stores early 2007. Although Dr. Dog has as many as twenty honorary "members" who have assisted in various capacities throughout the years, the core of the collective consists of five musicians all from various musical backgrounds. Imagine the Beach Boys, Beatles, Tom Waits, David Bowie, and Neil Young as acknowledged influences that have been interpreted through they eyes of Pavement, Palace Brothers, R. Stevie Moore, or Roy Wood. Still with us?
