Review

The NBA-statured rodent hit the reggae scene in 1981, busting poses like a Vogue model and singjaying (a combination of singing and rapping) an irresistible slice of Jamaican humor entitled "She Too Short (Me Too Tall)." Mouse stayed current throughout the decade via a steady flow of more inspired vinyl zaniness. This 1990 effort captures him just before the vocal acrobatics--the falsetto wah-wah's, leisurely basso, and bing-b-bing-boing scats--began to wilt. Despite the rushed tempos of early '90s-style reggae, Mouse opts here for 10 slo-mo retro instrumental tracks over which he delivers typically quirky but nonetheless astute social observations, with two gal hommage tunes thrown in to keep them happy. --Elena Oumano
