Review
Like his namesake, the New York-born Puerto Rican singer Elvis Crespo has been shakin' it up in the Latin tropical musical world as an ex-member of Grupo Mania and as a solo artist since 1998. This CD, his fifth solo album, updates his swinging, city-slicked meringue grooves. The track "La Cerves" features two trombones, while "Que Se Repitas" and "Bandidas," with the rapper Tempo and DJ Black, spotlight catchy guitar licks and piano vamps. "Bailalo" swings with some jazzy rhythmic twists and, like the title track from his big hit Suavemente, transports the peppery pulsations of the meringue into the land of pop with its syncopated citizenship intact. --Eugene Holley, Jr.
