Review

With their 20th album in their 33 year band history Guru Guru carry out a quantum jump, giving up their former concept of only recording what they could create live on stage. This time around they used loops, samples and even computer drums, to which dervish Mani Neumeier adds multi-layered rhythms on various drums. These are used by Roland Schaeffer to add beautiful harmonies with his guitar, sax and nadaswaran, which then are accompanied by second guitarist Luigi Archetti's more distorted playing. And the whole composition is being carried by Peter Kuhmstedt's bass. 2000 Gurus is a varied album, in comparison to the last couple of more rock-oriented Guru Guru albums, more dominated by grooves and lots of ethno influences.
