Review

HALLOWEEN does exist since the early Eighties. Jean-Philippe BRUN (Violin & vocals), Gilles COPPIN (Keyboards) and Philippe Di FAOSTINO (Drums) are the musical basis of the band. "Le Festin" is the fifth album by this french band based in Brest, which has been doing a lot of shows all over the world (Like the Progfest in Los-Angeles in 1994), and is considered as one of the two or three best French Progressive rock bands of the past two decades. The group is famous among Progressive rock lovers, being one of the "old" French ones, with a definitely specific style and sound. They have been compared, in the beginning of their career, to UK, KING CRIMSON & VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR and some others, mainly because of the violin's virtuosity (Jean-Philippe BRUN is a classical music's concertist). But they have created their own style, made of keyboards' dissonances, violin's lyricism, gloomy and tortured atmospheres. These eight songs, featuring Géraldine Le COCQ (The former singer of the band), plus a new guitarist, are cruel parables about modern world's madness and darkness. Perfectly composed, arranged and produced, they can't be compared to anything else, except the previous albums by the band. A masterpiece !
