Review
Although Jim Reeves is classified as a country singer, his smooth delivery is pure cosmopolitan croon. He makes Barry White sound like an overexcited amateur. For Reeves, the key was understatement. The material would be produced with just enough of everything and by the best session players available: Chet Atkins on guitar, Floyd Cramer on piano, the Jordinaires on backing vocals. Reeves's best material is seductive even as tragedy fouls his plan. "The Blizzard" is a horrible weeper, "He'll Have to Go," the ultimate in sexual confidence, and "Four Walls" is an open admission of loneliness. Reeves sound is slick but never soulless. --Rob O'Connor
