Review

In 1976 John Etheridge joined two distinctively different musical groups, one was the jazz fusion outfit Soft Machine, the other was the touring group of the celebrated jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli. With Chasing Shadows, Etheridge revisits the Grappelli territory but in the spirit of exploration rather than nostalgia. He is joined on this musical journey by rhythm guitarist Dave Kelbie, bassist Malcolm Creese & Chris Garrick, the best young violinist in today's jazz scene. The titles on this set range from the classic Hot Club of France title track (with Etheridge playing Django Reinhardt to Garrick's Grappelli) through inspired versions of John Coltrane's 'Giant Steps' & 'Moment's Notice'.
