Review

While Keith Murray's penchant for multisyllabic lyricism creates interesting (if not always linguistically accurate) moments, his stutter-step rhyme scheme simply isn't forceful enough to carry It's a Beautiful Thing, an album that suffers from lethargic production and a dearth of concept. There are moments of excellence, such as Murray's pairing with Canibus for "Some Shit" and "Bad Day," his dark remake of Ice Cube's "It Was a Good Day," but they're few and far between. For the most part, Murray starts off 1999 with an album that is listenable, just not necessarily likable. --Oliver Wang
