Review

Songs from the Pink Death is another slice of classic rockspiel from the man with the golden ear. While Kramer's immeasurable talents as a producer and musical director (Bongwater, King Missile, etc.) have overshadowed his abilities as a frontman, it must be said that he is the Groucho Marx of rock & roll. Accompanied here by drummer Damon Krukowki and guitarist Sean Eden, Kramer manifests a subdued persona with obtuse imagery and a lush, melodic wisdom. On "Buddy Holly Will Never Die," he thrashes and wails behind a virtual wall of sound. In keeping with an ongoing Kramer tradition, Lennon and McCartney are given apt tribute with a cover of "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away." With roots in the '60s and '70s, Kramer hits his mark. --Mitch Myers
