Lead track "It's Me Again Jah" and the other buoyantly righteous hits collected in this 1995 Island Records debut filled an aching space created by the premature deaths of reggae prophets Bob Marley in 1981 and Garnet Silk in 1994. Other contemporary Jamaican artists may enjoy star of the month status, but Where There Is Life earned Luciano a permanent niche in the reggae pantheon. This charismatic baritone additionally distinguishes himself from virtually every other Rastafarian roots singer by avoiding songs of romantic love and rebellion in favor of serving only The Most High. It doesn't matter what your faith, Luciano's spiritual devotion is so musically fresh and vital that, like Marley, his message reaches everyone.
