Review

At its best, The Carnivorous Lunar Activities of Lupine Howl goes some way to answering the question of what might have happened had Massive Attack ever produced Lee Hazlewood. Bristol, England-based Lupine Howl take a few basic--even hackneyed--American forms and attitudes and dress them up, almost beyond recognition, in contemporary British sensibilities. Though Lupine Howl are only a duo--Sean Cook and Mike Mooney, formerly members of Spiritualized--they seemingly play more instruments between them than most orchestras and, more importantly, are capable of arrangements sufficiently inventive to accommodate them. In particular, "Sniff the Glue" sounds like the track Primal Scream spent all of Give out But Don't Give Up trying to make, "Carnival" is superior Zeppelin-via-Stone Roses rock & roll, and "Lonely Roads" wanders off the reservation altogether--a road song that evokes Joy Division and Radiohead but which mostly sounds like it could be the beginnings of something remarkable in its own right. --Andrew MuellerLimited edition of their eagerly anticipated debut album. Self-produced it's described by frontman Sean Cook as, 'nine schizophrenic tracks which chart the life experiments and transgressions of the group'. Tracks include the singles, '125' and 'Vaporizer'. This pressing is packaged in a box and is limited to 2000 copies! Features complete liner notes with lyrics & photos. 2001 release.Comes in a Carboard Box.
