Review

Magnet's first three albums, Don't Be a Penguin, Which Way, and Shark Bait, featured intriguing guest stars including Moe Tucker from the Velvet Underground and David Lowery from Cracker. Magnet's 4th album, Caffeine Superstar, features a unique rhythm section of Chris Lovejoy from the Charley Hunter band on drums and Victor Krummenacher (ex-Camper van Beethoven) on bass. Mark Goodman, Magnet's songwriter and singer, has written a cohesive dreamy album that is receiving excellent reviews. Caffeine Superstar features a languid, slow cover of the Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated." The album is Magnet's best effort to date. Paul Bauman and Steve Schiltz of the band Longwave add beautiful intertwined guitar parts. If you like Luna, The VU, or Low - you will love this album.
