Review

Mary Lofstrom brings a glimmer of old-fashioned silken artistry to songs that are ripe for this moment. A unique flavor is brought to the jazz world through Mary Lofstrom's songwriting and song choices. Seated at once smack dab in the middle of traditional jazz yet tugging at its fringes with her openly lesbian lyrics, Lofstrom makes her listeners feel at ease with her clear, emotive style. Lofstrom's songs could easily accompany the listener to daylight, come along for a lazy drive, take a turn in the garden of the soul or leave one in the dark with martini in hand. Lofstrom is a native Minnesotan now residing in Seattle. It is here that she studied with the internationally recognized jazz vocalist, Jay Clayton. Mary has two CDs to her credit; the 1997 release 'My Secret Joy' (nine original songs) and the 2002 'Ginger Comes to Stay'. Play List: 1. Palm Springs Jump 2. Sugar in My Bowl 3. I Don't Know Enough About You 4. Ginger 5. I'll Do Dot 6. So Nice (Summer Samba) 7. Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone 8. Minnesota's Lament 9. You Hit the Spot 10. My Baby Just Cares for Me 11. Your Good Girl is Gonna go Bad
