Review

"Every Road" is the new solo CD release from Numavox artist Michael Gleason. The subject matter is centered in common ground life experience, taking an honest look at how it plays out day to day. The 12 songs are sometimes observational, sometimes intensely personal, and always to the point.

The single, "Maybe I Don't Know" describes the challenge of reaching out to someone in need, expressing the essential emotions that are at once both personal and universal. Another song, "Stranger," is a pointed and haunting reflection on the human condition, reflecting a spiritual struggle toward serenity and reconciliation. (This is Michael's version of his #1 CCM hit, "The Stranger," which he originally wrote for Aaron Jeoffrey.)

The other songs continue across a spectrum of topics, from resolve and commitment in the title track, to a prodigal's return in "All's Forgiven", from the not-made-for-this-world longing in "Stranger" and "Soul Town" to the timeless ecclesiastical reality conveyed in "The Morning News", from the turn-a-blind-eye cynicism of "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" to the upbeat everyone's got a part to play of "Joe Average."

Musically, the album has an aggressive acoustic and electric guitar-driven foundation, with vocal hooks and harmonies in generous supply. Michael sings the lead vocals, and plays most of the acoustic guitar tracks, some keyboards, and a few electric passes. The band is made up of Atlanta and Nashville all-stars, including drummers Scott Meeder and Jon Chalden, bassists Jackie Street and Pat Malone, keyboardist John Carrozza, and guitarists Sonny Lallerstedt and Jason Hoard. Backing vocalists include Michael, Jeffrey B. Scott, Jeff Goode, and Steve Thomason, all of whom sound joined at the hip.
