Review

Michel MANDEL is a French clarinetist and saxophonist from the obscure band ETRON FOU LELOUBLAN. The eponymous album is an all-instrumental piece of work brought out in 1997 under the Gazul label. Although this is nothing else than a solo clarinet effort, there is no trace of the didactic exercice we could have expected in such circumstances. The thirteen tracks follow one another gentfully and each of them lasts between 2 and 5 minutes, just the time it takes to appreciate the instrumental evolution of the artist. We can also note that in addition to his usual panoply of instruments, the man plays a strange instrument called taragot. Michel MANDEL always brings a great deal of humour and innovation...
