Review

With their eponymous debut album, Pamela Taylor and Audra Alexander, better known as Pam and Dodi, prove there's nothing profane about setting the sacred to R&B and hip-hop grooves. While other gospel acts like Mary Mary and Yolanda Adams have proven that singing for the soul can sell records to mainstream audiences, this Detroit-based duo turns out faith-filled tracks that should appeal to younger crowds used to getting glitz and bang with their bucks. The pair's dance-ready tunes are filled with stutter-stop rhythms, diva-style melismas, and finely honed flair, and they're delivered with high levels of gloss, thanks to hit makers such as Shep Crawford (Boyz II Men, Lil' Mo) and Warryn Campbell (Sisqó, Dru Hill) helping with production. But Pam and Dodi aren't a studio-tweaked creation, and it's obvious when the Holy Spirit takes hold, their voices entwining in gorgeous harmonies on the stunning "I Appreciate You" and lifting them up to meet the powerhouse vocals of K-Ci & Jojo (who join the girls on ""Nobody") note for glorious note. --Sylvia W.
