Review

On In the Throes of the Microscope, Priya Thomas offers up a visceral and searingly honest collection of songs that confront womanhood, both passionate and clinical. Built on ferocious guitars, on the edge-right over the cliff vocals and impossibly raw energy, the songs like “Specimen”, “100 Wombs” and “Stillborn” all tap into the same imagery of passion and petrie dishes, love and rocket science. Everything about In The Throes of the Microscope sounds edgy and inventive, with Thomas' vox alternately soaring or guttural, depending on the millisecond. Falling somewhere between Diamanda Galas and early PJ Harvey, Priya Thomas delivers characteristically intense songs for the musically brave.
