Review

Vancouver, British Columbia's best-kept secret may just be a quartet named Pure. On their major label debut, they display the psychedelic pop panache of the Flaming Lips and the rambling devil-may-care weirdness of Pavement. Following in the tradition of both of those bands, Pure recorded and mixed the bulk of this record themselves in various different bedrooms and apartments. The sound is still quite warm and full, and the songs are all about people, places, and reminiscences. Pure may be a little more mainstream than the Lips and Pavement, but Generation Six-Pack is nonetheless a fine collection of weird, fuzzy pop songs. --Adem Tepedelen
