Review

'The First Cut Is The Deepest' is a cover of Rod Stewart's 1977 hit (written by Cat Stevens) & one of the tracks recorded especially for her 2003 compilation 'Very Best of Sheryl Crow'. As one would expect, there are no bells & whistles here, just a warm, steady vocal wrapped in sparse acoustic production & a layer of harmony. There's nothing quite like Crow's own perspective on life, but this cover is a nice fit among the timeless artist's most memorable hits. The title track (Remix Version) is backed with two more non-LP tracks, 'Everyday Is A Winding Road' (Live At Central Park) & 'My Favorite Mistake' (Live At Central Park). A&M.The Buffer Track from Crow's First Collection "The Very Best of Sheryl Crow" that was Originally Written and Recorded by Cat Stevens/Yusaf Islam and Covered Previously by Rod Stewart, Sweet, Gene Pitney and Others. Crow Has Created a Classic Rendition Enhanced by her Distinctive Vocals. The Single is Backed with Two Live Renditions of Previous Hits.
