Bob Dylan once called Smokey Robinson "one of America's greatest living poets," and one listen to the 50 sumptuous tracks in this power-packed two-CD set provides validation for the quote. Aside from being Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr.'s right-hand man almost from the label's inception, William "Smokey" Robinson was the author of a truckload of hits for the fledgling Motor City operation. With the Miracles, he was in peak form. This excellent compilation covers all the bases: from timeless classics such as "Shop Around," "You've Really Got a Hold on Me," "Ooo Baby Baby," "The Tracks of My Tears," "More Love," "I Second That Emotion," and the immortal "Tears of a Clown" to gems like 1960's "Who's Lovin' You" (later popularized by a youthful Michael Jackson and his brothers) and the group's earliest sides, "Got a Job," "Bad Girl," and "Way Over There." There are treats like a live version of "Going to a Go-Go" and previously unreleased cuts like "My Heart Says Yes" and "'Til You Were Gone."
