Review

Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina before settling in New York City, Jimmy Nations debuts his combo on his first Rubric Records release, Tarheel Boogie.

The Jimmy Nations Combo are Western Swing, pure and simple. Jimmy's material is mostly original drawing from his roots--bluegrass, country and blues. He is also versatile on covers as can be heard on his rendition of Wynn Stewart's "Wishful Thinking".

The album is produced by Byron McCay (writer of "Stool Hanging Drunk" and producer of The Backsliders and Two Dollar Pistols, among others). Tarheel Boogie was recorded at JAG Studios in Raleigh, NC and Excello in Brooklyn, NY. Guest appearance from Steve Earle's new guitarist, Eric "Roscoe" Ambel on acoustic guitar.
