Review

One to Give features 12 tracks ranging from the funky hip hop they are known for, to explorations in R&B, reggae, latin, jungle, and rock.

The 4 piece hip hop band utilizes drums, bass, keys, and guitars, all performed live, to make lush grooves with solid lyrics on top. Highlights of the album include the title track "One to Give" which features vocalist Rebecca Correia joining the band. With her on the hook and Matt Zeigler's poignant poetically driven lyrics, this lament on the current state of the art's will get you nodding your head and singing along within one listen. Just make sure you take the time for a few more to digest some of the lyrical references. Also note able is "Onetwo" for not only the hook (that you'll certainly know if you've seen them recently live), but for Mike Straus' bass heavy breakdown mid song, that also features a crunchy Rhodes solo from Omer Shemesh.

This is not the hip hop you're used to hearing. This is the MUSIC you SHOULD be hearing. Now if that's not enough for you, check out the intense drumming of Paul Miniero on "Stop." Jungle-esque drum breaks meet some incredibly fast and rhythmic rhyme patterns in a showcase of just far this band can go with their writing process. Already growing since last year's release of Live At Sully's, it's only getting better. No stagnation here, only progress.
