Review
Two if By Sea, is a fully formed musical recognition of the energy and ethos of the era that spawned Joy Division and Wire. Mixing riotous energy with taut sarcasm, the band constructs dark spasms of electric song-writing, plasma hot beats and coiled, sensually dark vocals.
Building on an east coast reputation as a captivating live band, Two if By Sea has translated this talent into a searing set of electro-sonic song therapy on their debut album Translation. With innervating spurts of dark rhythms thrust upward with vital vocals, Two if By Sea thunders past all the heavy clichés on a rush of off-kilter energy and desiccated fun. The album pulses with undertones of primal movement, forceful beats and Korg induced passion.
Songs like Swords and Pistols drive with clipped, soaring guitars, Moog accents, and an unrelenting back beat that turns simple chord progressions into open source tunes of obsession and wit. The Affair takes frothy instrumental whip lash and turns into a coke worthy probe of desire and disaffection. One Hundred Days rattles with a live bed of catastrophic floor toms, angst filled adrenaline, and Hyperreal hooks.
