Review

The untimely death of Jamaica's most loved female ballad singer, Cynthia Schloss-Blake has brought about numerous requests for her work, and so having recently released an extensive compilation on a double CD called "Voice of an Angel", we have decided to put her first recorded album "Ready and Waiting", released on vinyl in 1974, on a CD with additional bonus tracks.

This CD "Ready and Waiting in Memory" has 20 tracks, which we are sure you will relish with fresh enthusiasm, includes some of Cynthia's landmark recordings. Included are the ever popular "Red Rose", "I won't Cry", "Chained to a Memory", her R& B version of Bob Marley's "Guava Jelly", a special interpretation of Marley's "No Woman No Cry" and "Words are Impossible", a song that did extremely well for her in England. The track that I really love is "Nightfall"- a bolero style cover of an old song by Laurel Aitken. "There's a Fire" (a Bibi Seaton original) and "Winstona B" are destined to become tracks you are gonna play repeatedly.

"Ready and Waiting in Memory" has 8 bonus tracks some were released as singles. "Without Your Love" a cover of a song penned by Little Roy, has a beautiful melody and is done in Lovers Rock style. "Moneymaker" is a ska vocal penned by David Madden to a popular Jamaican classic instrumental called "Moneymaker" . "Please Bless our Home" a family song, is one of our most requested recordings. The talented Harold Butler with Lennie Little-White penned "I Can't Stop the Pain" when he was asked to write a musical score for an all-Jamaican movie, Children of Babylon, produced by Lenny Little White. "Give me your Love", (demo style) is penned by a talented young man, was never completed but liked enough to share with you. "I Believe I'm going to Love You", the unabridged, unmixed version, is a favorite of my friend, collaborator on all my musical productions, business associate Clive "Don" Davidson insisted that it is a must. That one is for Don. The mixed version is on "Voice of! an Angel" featuring Cynthia at her best and the song is a tearjerker that came alive after her death. "Red Rose" (a Bibi Seaton original), was always one of Cynthia's most popular songs so we thought we would present the extended version. Please enjoy. Apologies are in order for shortening the track "Without Your Love" (instrumental) which features Michael "Mikey" Chung, guitarist extraordinaire sounding a bit like Wes Montgomery on this track… one of my favorites.

More Cynthia, more memories, more tears, more laughter more mixed emotions…. We consider ourselves blessed to have had her. Thanks for making our spirit dance!

Love Perennially,

Winston "Merritone" Blake
