Review

Limited edition 2004 release from Masami Akita. The music is hypnotic, droning, beat ridden, & at times rhythmic. Even though the sounds are harsh there is a calming effect to the pieces. The listener feels surrounded by sound but not smothered by it. Within the noise are subtle details that help lighten the darkness that encompasses the tracks. Merzbow has taken the strongest parts of Japanese psyche rock & created something new with these elements. Packaged in a unique 'egg' package. The 'egg' is constructed of oversized heavy embossed cardboard. The CD is inside the 'egg' & it is the yolk of the release (in color & substance). This 'egg' is hinged & can be opened & shut via a Velcro fastener. Think of an oversized flat egg & you will know what this is. Tamago is limited to 350 copies & it will not be repressed. Plan DX17.
