Review

On their label debut, NO, YOU SHUT UP!, Charlotte, North Carolina-based rock act THE TALK reveal themselves as both songwriting whiz kids and rowdy punk rockers, creating the kind of music John Lennon would have made if he grew up on the lower east side of NYC with the last name Ramone and a brother named Joey. On the album's 12 tracks, the 4-piece outfit fires up their punk-laced, back-to-basics rock 'n' roll with hotwired guitar riffs and a blistering backbeat outshined only by the band's insanely infectious melodies and keen lyrics. After listening to NO, YOU SHUT UP! you'll have no choice but to disobey what the album's title commands and tell everyone within earshot about this exciting new act. While THE TALK formed only recently in 2002, they substitute lack of years with pure talent, collective chemistry and unmatched dedication. The band has already booked and promoted their own coast-to-coast tour and was awarded "Best Band" honors from their hometown's Creative Loafing. And now, just as NO, YOU SHUT UP!, is released, THE TALK are already heading back to the studio with an album's worth of new songs; this time with acclaimed producer Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Sideshow) at the helms.
